After the Protests, What Now?
September 24 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm CDT
In recent months, we have seen an unquestionable resurgence in the movement for long overdue racial justice. Millions of us across the country (and even around the world), people of all identities and backgrounds, have taken to the streets, engaged in direct actions, and called on elected officials to change policy and practice. While these demonstrations are essential, this renewed dialogue is also forcing us to think honestly and strategically about how we each fit personally into a movement that aims to shift the very foundations of American culture. How do we work for justice on a daily basis? How do we interact and relate to one another with both autonomy and collective interest in mind? How do we interrogate the ways in which we’ve internalized the traumas and injustices of white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism?
When these questions come up, especially for white folx and non-Black people of color, the conversation often turns to allyship. But what does it mean to be an ally, and is that enough?
In this gathering, we’ll talk about allyship, intersectionality, and how we can support one another as we move forward together towards the true measure of a movement: Solidarity.
My guest co-host will be FeelReal co-founder, Ryan Bell.
Please RSVP above. You’ll receive a ticket with the Zoom link needed to access this gathering via email.
